Why Does Multi-User Tally Require a Special Setup?
Standard Tally single-user installation allows only one user to open a company file at a time. A second user attempting to access the same company while the first has it open receives an error. For any business with two or more accountants, this is an immediate problem.
Multi-user access requires two things: a Windows Server operating system (not Windows 10/11) and a multi-user Tally license. Windows Server supports multiple simultaneous Remote Desktop sessions. Windows 10/11 does not — they allow only one concurrent RDP session by default. This eliminates any provider running Windows 10 for "cloud hosting" as unsuitable for multi-user Tally.
What License Is Required?
Tally Prime Silver (up to 3 users), Tally Prime Gold (unlimited users on a server), or equivalent Tally ERP 9 Multi-User editions. The license must be a site license registered to the server, not a single-user workstation license.
If you currently have a single-user license, upgrade before migrating. If you have a multi-user license already, confirm with Tally India or your reseller that it can be transferred to the cloud server environment for your specific edition.
What Server Configuration Does Each User Count Need?
Base all sizing on concurrent users — people in Tally simultaneously at peak time — not total staff. Formula: RAM = (concurrent users × 2 GB) + 4 GB OS overhead.
3 concurrent users: 4 cores, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB NVMe. 6 users: 8 cores, 16 GB RAM, 150 GB NVMe. 10 users: 12 cores, 24 GB RAM, 200 GB NVMe. 15 users: 16 cores, 32 GB RAM, 300 GB NVMe.
All plans must use NVMe SSD, not SATA SSD or HDD. Tally's database performs constant small random reads. NVMe handles these at 300,000+ IOPS vs SATA's 50,000–80,000 IOPS. The user experience difference is immediate.
How Long Does Setup Take?
From order confirmation to your team working on the cloud server: 24–48 hours. M A Global Network provisions the server, configures Windows Server 2022 with RDS, installs Tally, sets up user accounts, migrates your data, and tests with your team before cutover. The cutover itself — switching from local to cloud — takes 2–4 hours on a weekend.
